David Pollack Names Historic College Football Program That Could Be 'In Trouble'

Former ESPN analyst David Pollack recently spoke on his podcast with Rivals analyst Brent Rollins, where the two dropped their predictions for the Week 3 college football slate.

Pollack didn't reveal too many surprising picks on Saturday. He's taking the LSU Tigers to defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks, Missouri to take care of business against Boston College, and he took Kansas State to beat Arizona on Friday.

While he shared an interesting take on one of the most historic powerhouse programs in college football history, he didn't necessarily predict an upset.

Pollack believes the Notre Dame Fighting Irish should proceed with caution as they take on the Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette.

He thinks if the Notre Dame offense is struggling yet again, they could be "in trouble."

"If they can score and Notre Dame can't, goodness gracious," Pollack said. "Notre Dame could be in trouble."

The Fighting Irish have struggled with transfer quarterback Riley Leonard. The former Duke Blue Devils starter was a highly touted prospect in the college football transfer portal last offseason, but there seems to be an issue with the fit in ND.

During his first two games with Notre Dame, Leonard has produced 321 yards with a 61.3 completion percentage.

He has yet to throw a touchdown in 2024, but he's connected with the opposing secondary, throwing two interceptions on the year.

Pollack believes the main issue with Leonard at Notre Dame is their decision to use him as a pocket passer.

Leonard has always been known as a quarterback who could extend plays with his legs and keep the defense on their toes, but that hasn't been the case with the Fighting Irish.

In two weeks with Notre Dame, he's recorded 79 rushing yards. That seems to be a solid number for a quarterback, but the production hasn't been consistent.

During the Irish's 23-13 victory over Texas A&M in Week 1, Leonard ran for 63 yards on the ground with 12 carries. In Notre Dame's 16-14 loss to NIU in Week 2, Leonard had 16 yards on 11 carries.

If the same playbook from NIU returns for Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish may be "in trouble," in the words of David Pollack.
