There has been a lot of pressure on the Florida Gators and head coach Billy Napier entering this season. The Gators have had three straight losing seasons, two of which have been under Napier's leadership.

The team is currently dealing with a quarterback controversy. Graham Mertz, who started on opening day, went 11-of-20 for 91 yards with an interception in the first game against Miami before getting injured. The five-star freshman, D.J. Lagway, stepped in for the injured Mertz last weekend and had an outstanding game. Lagway completed 18-of-25 passes for 456 yards and three touchdowns.

Tim Tebow, a former standout for the Florida Gators, shared his perspective on Florida's quarterback situation during Saturday's "SEC Nation." He emphasized that the team's problems extend beyond the quarterback position, are present across the entire roster, and should be addressed first.

"Florida's issue has not been at the quarterback position," Tebow said. "It's been at the offensive line; it's been at the skill positions. It's been at the front four on defense. It's been at the secondary. It has not been at the quarterback position. It's so easy for fans and the media to point and say, 'We need a change there.' That wasn't the issue against Miami."

Tebow pointed out that the problem against Miami was that Florida got "pushed around" for the entire game. He observed more fight and determination from Miami than he saw from Florida. Tebow mentioned that it wouldn't have made a difference if the quarterback had played against Miami, as they would have been beaten up due to the offensive line's poor performance.

The Gators are aiming for a crucial victory on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, against the Texas A&M Aggies at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. According to ESPN , Mertz will start, but Lagway will also play.
