    Tank Reveals Scary Cowboys Admission

    By Adam Schultz,

Perhaps one of the biggest statements made of Week 1 was the Dallas Cowboys' defensive beatdown of the Cleveland Browns.

In Mike Zimmer's first game as a defensive play-caller in what feels like forever, the Cowboys obliterated the Browns offense and made Deshaun Watson look like a rookie.

Dallas didn't allow a third-down conversion in the first half and kept the Browns to just 54 total yards. While things relaxed in the second half, Dallas still totaled six sacks in a dominating display.

However, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who had 2.0 sacks, had a rather scary revelation about what Zimmer's defense could become.

"Oh, we definitely [have] a different level we can actually go," Lawrence said. "It's our first time playing under Zim's system. We've got awesome talent out there, first time playing together. So as we go along, I feel like we'll knock out the [wrinkles] and get it all straightened out. If all 11 of us do our job and we're on the same page, we should have a good down. So just being accountable to each other, being accountable to the system, accountable to the team, and handling your business."

Let's not forget that Dallas started this way last year, beating the New York Giants 40-0 in Week 1, so now the unit must build on it.

But perhaps what was the most pleasing from a Cowboys perspective is that the defensive group as a whole, played to Zimmer's system and stayed within their roles.

That allowed every line to function to its highest level and the product that was put on the field because of that was eyebrow-rising.

However, it is one game, so we aren't anointing Dallas as anything yet, but after an offseason of discontent and uncertainty, especially defensively, it was a serious marker to lay down to begin the season.
