Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner has something else to look forward to beyond the 2024 WNBA season, and it's not just the playoffs.

While Griner's focus is certainly on the WNBA postseason as she and Diana Taurasi look to lead the Mercury to the championship, there's more that awaits her once the campaign is over. On Friday, she received news that she and her partner, Cherelle Griner, will be honored in November for their social advocacies.

ACLU Southern California made the announcement on its website, sharing that the Griners and "Avengers" actor Mark Ruffalo will be honored in its annual Bill of Rights awards on November 10 at the Beverly Hilton.

According to ACLU SoCal, Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle are set to be recognized "for their extraordinary professional accomplishments, activism and freedom fighting."

The Mercury center and two-time Olympic gold medalist is an "anti-bullying and gender pay equity advocate." Meanwhile, Cherelle is a lawyer whose focus is "family and civil rights law."

"As an ardent supporter of LGBTQ+ causes, Griner has worked with the It Gets Better Project and other organizations inspiring hope for youth facing harassment and bullying," ACLU SoCal further said of Brittney Griner. "TIME confirmed Griner's stature and global impact, naming her one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023."

While Griner has her fair share of critics, no one can deny the impact she's having off the basketball court. The recognition she's set to receive speaks volumes about how big of a change she's making in the community.
