Kirk Herbstreit Predicts Massive College Football Upset On Saturday

Week 3 in college football certainly doesn't present the most exciting slate of games, but there are a few teams on upset watch.

Some of the biggest games of the week include LSU at South Carolina, Georgia at Kentucky, and Boston College at Missouri, all of which include championship-seeking SEC programs.

Outside of these matchups, one of the most intriguing games of the week is Washington State facing off against Washington in an in-state rivalry.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbsreit, who spoke on the contest during Saturday's "College GameDay" segment believes John Mateer, the Cougars quarterback will be a game changer.

Herbstreit is picking the Washington State Cougars to defeat the Washington Huskies for an upset in the in-state rivalry.

"There's something about this Mateer, running, throwing, making plays, rivalry game," Herbstreit said. "I like the Cougars in that one."

Mateer is playing in his first season as the Washington State starter after Cam Ward transferred to Miami in the offseason.

Herbstreit seems to believe Mateer's dual-threat ability will be a difference-maker in Week 3, along with the fact that the Cougars are hungry for a win over the Huskies, who recently left the Pac-12 for the Big Ten.

In his first two games of the year, Mateer has produced six touchdowns and 467 yards with a 55.6 completion percentage. He's been phenomenal on the ground, rushing for two touchdowns and 252 yards.

Given Mateer's abilities and the pressure Washington has as the favorite in the matchup, Kirk Herbstreit is taking the Cougars.
