Pat McAfee Predicts Massive College Football Upset on Saturday

For the first time since 2014, ESPN's "College GameDay" made a trip to Columbia, South Carolina, in Week 3 of the 2024 college football season as the No. 16 LSU Tigers face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Pat McAfee made a few favorable picks towards the end of the episode, selecting his alma mater West Virginia to beat Pittsburgh, Alabama to beat Wisconsin, and Oklahoma to beat Tulane.

But there was one prediction from McAfee that stood out.

In front of the South Carolina crowd, the former Indianapolis Colts punter picked the Gamecocks to upset the ranked LSU squad. He and special guest Dawn Staley, the South Carolina women's basketball coach, were the only two not to pick the Tigers.

The Tigers went into the game as 6.5-point favorites, according to ESPN Bet. But South Carolina is no joke, beating Kentucky on the road in Week 2, 31-6.

With the departure of quarterback Spencer Rattler to the NFL, the Gamecocks have turned to redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers.

Sellers struggled to get things going through the air in Week 1 against Old Dominion, completing only 10 of his 23 pass attempts for 114 yards. However, he did show off his running skills with 68 yards and a touchdown.

Week 2 was a different story against Kentucky. Sellers had a better passing game, despite the low attempts, completing 10 of his 14 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. His ground game was a nonfactor.

After coming into the season as the No. 13 ranked team, LSU dropped their first game against the USC Trojans, 27-20. They bounced back in Week 2 with a 44-21 win over Nicholls.

But if the Tigers want to keep their playoff hopes alive, a win against South Carolina is a must. But McAfee doesn't think they will.
