SEC Program Accused of Quitting on Head Coach on Saturday

The Florida Gators did not play with much urgency or umph against Texas A&M on Saturday, leaving many questioning if head coach Billy Napier has lost the locker room.

Florida entered the matchup 1-1, with a win against FCS Samford. However, Miami blew out the Gators in their opener, 41-17.

The matchup against the Aggies resembled that Week 1 matchup, with Florida unable to muster anything on offense. The Gators finished the first half down 20-0 with 73 yards of total offense.

"Florida looks like they quit on Billy," Bud Elliott of CBS Sports wrote on X.

    Others agreed with the take.

"Billy Napier should apologize to the Florida Gators players at halftime, he should thank them for their loyalty, and he should say his goodbyes ," Brandon Olsen of Whole Nine Sports said. "This man is done and he deserves to be done. Embarrassing excuse of a coach."

Others also called for Napier to be let go after it looked like the Gators would be heading for a 1-2 start.

"It’s year 3. Billy Napier is losing in the Swamp to a coach in his FIRST SEASON with a BACKUP QB. HE HAS HAD TWO LOSING SEASONS," a fan said . "It does NOT take an eternity to turn around a program. You were sold LIES by propaganda artists. FIRE HIM NOW."

The fans inside of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium seemingly were on the same page.

"Florida fans just booed a 'drive sober or get pulled over' ad read by Bily Napier on the Jumbotron," Nick de la Torre of Gators Online said on X. "They booed as Napier finished his TV interview and left the field again. They chanted 'Fire Billy' during Florida's last offensive drive of the first half.

The rest of the schedule is tough for the Gators. It includes No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Texas, as well as other top-10 opponents in Tennessee and Ole Miss.
