Calls Mount for LSU-South Carolina Officiating Crew To Be Investigated After Saturday’s Game

Saturday's showdown between the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks was filled with drama, with Brian Kelly's men staging a massive comeback by erasing a 17-point deficit to win 36-33.

However, the battle wasn't without controversy. In fact, there were several questionable calls that have college football fans demanding for the SEC to investigate the officiating crew.

Perhaps the most controversial of the referees' calls in the game was the two voided pick-6s that Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw.

The first occurred in the opening quarter when O'Donnell Fortune intercepted Nussmeier and proceeded to score a touchdown; however, a horse collar tackle by Kyle Kennard on the LSU signal-caller overturned the score.

South Carolina's erased pick-6 in the final quarter was even more heartbreaking, though. A late hit on Nussmeier nullified the interception and what would have been an easy TD to extend the Gamecocks' lead. It was a huge turning point since the battle was tight at 33-29 in favor of South Carolina.

There was also one no-call on a Tigers defender despite a late hit on running back Raheim Sanders.

Considering how much it seemed the referees favored LSU in the come-from-behind win, several college football supporters accused the officials of rigging the game. Along with it, many asked for the SEC to look into the officiating crew and take drastic action.

"FBI needs to launch an investigation into the refs in the LSU USC game," a social media user shared.

"The refs at this USC vs LSU game are pitiful . They need to be investigated as soon as this game is over," a disappointed viewer wrote.

Another critic , who claims to be a USC alum, added: As a USC alum, I need LSU to win this game for quality win purposes. But there should be a Congressional investigation into the refs, because South Carolina keeps getting ripped off. One of the most rigged college football games I've ever seen."

"I hope every ref loses their job calling this USC LSU game," a critic said.

A fifth poster shared , "Somebody investigate these refs dawg, like it’s overwhelming how many flags USC has gotten compared to LSU."

It remains to be seen if South Carolina will take any action after all the questionable rulings that went against them, or if the SEC will review the matter amid all the complaints. Either way, it's not a good look for college football.
