WNBA Fans Unhappy With Announcer's Caitlin Clark Comments

The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Indiana Fever again on Friday, September 13, to secure the season series sweep. While these last two Aces-Fever games were more competitive than the first two, Las Vegas was able to secure the same outcome and win the season series 4-0 over Indiana.

Fever rookie Caitlin Clark made WNBA history in the loss on Friday, breaking the league's single-season assists record with her 317th assist. This understandably became a major story, but some fans were unhappy with the coverage Clark received in this game.

Broadcast on ION, this game had Fever play-by-play announcer Pat Boylan on the call.

Several WNBA fans believed Clark received favorable coverage from the broadcast crew in this game, particularly as her teammate Kelsey Mitchell was carrying the scoring load in the first half.

Via @sipTEAwithD on X : "Kelsey Mitchell is the only reason the fever are in the game and all they’re doing is talking about CC?? Not aces related but I really hope she goes to a team that deserves her in the off season… cause this is crazyyy"

The initial post received over 1,100 likes and 100,000 views, with many fans reacting in the comments and quotes.

Other fans had similar observations about the Clark commentary during this Aces-Fever game.

"A’ja just had a sweet block and all the announcer can talk about is Caitlin Clark’s pass," @hannalytical wrote on X.

Clark also picked up her sixth technical foul of the season in this game, putting her one away from a suspension. Some fans believe the announcers were also too generous to her after the technical foul.

"Caitlin needs anger management BADLY…but the biased commentators said 'she should be allowed to be frustrated' when she just got that tech," @Kaydeemacc24 wrote on X, also seeming to add Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese would not have received the same commentary.

Popular Fever/Clark fan account @kenswift on X pointed out that Boylan was on the call for this game.

Under a viral post of the play-by-play commentator declaring Clark the WNBA Rookie of the Year, @kenswift commented, "That’s Pat, he’s a Fever broadcaster, he better lol"

The initial post of Boylan's Rookie of the Year declaration tallied over 2,900 likes and 83,000 views on X.

While there were several negative comments about the commentary during this Aces-Fever game, particularly as it pertained to Clark, not everyone took exception to it.

U can tell who knows basketball and who doesn't. Clark is being double and triple teamed a lot on top of the key. That leaves Mitchell open for threes or she can go one on one with an open lane because of the help defender on Clark. That's basketball. If Clark wasn't getting so much attention then Mitchell would have a much harder time scoring or getting to the lane.

LISTEN….appreciate the golden Ticket to the WNBA! Seriously folks, put your hurt feelings aside and ride the horse of future WNBA notoriety! Clark has placed the WNBA on the map!!! Enjoy the ride while it lasts!!! ALL WNBA players will benefit from this, and those that don’t see it are just plain jealous or ignorant (that goes for the whining fans as well)!
