The California Golden Bears are playing ACC football after leaving the Pac-12. In Week 3, they hosted future Pac-12 program San Diego State in Berkeley in a late-night game in the Bay Area.

A week after the Golden Bears' huge upset over Auburn, they got another win with a 31-10 victory to remain undefeated.

However, Cal head coach Justin Wilcox went viral for a strange reason. In the game, Cal was penalized twice for fans throwing cards on the field.

So, Wilcox took the mic from the refs and had an urgent message for the fans.

"Cal fans," Wilcox stated. "We love you. Stop throwing the cards on the field. That's two 15-yard penalties. Please stop throwing the cards on the field."

The ref had no idea what to do and was just as surprised as everybody else.

Per one user on X, these cards have been part of a tradition for quite some time.

However, it turns out the ACC referees weren't too thrilled and called the Golden Bears for two penalties because of it.

It was surely something that would've been a classic Pac-12 After Dark moment, although Cal is now in the ACC. With all of the rumblings about Cal and Stanford and the Pac-12 expansion, it was the perfect moment all around.

Nonetheless, the Golden Bears had no issues with the penalties and got an easy victory over the Aztecs. Cal is now 3-0 with a game against Central Michigan in Week 5 following its bye.
