Dak Prescott 'Dirty' Hit Earns Browns Biggest NFL Fine

In real time, on the second play of the Week 1 game., it simply seemed like a sack for Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

But on second thought (on the part of the NFL gate-keepers) ... Tomlinson's play was a "dirty'' one as Tomlinson has been fined $22,511 for the sack. And why? The league determined that the Browns big man landed atop the QB with his full body weight, which is a no-no.

The league releases fine information at the end of the week following the previous week's game, and in this case, Tomlinson's fine seems to be the biggest one of Week 1.

The hit was not flagged by the refs in the game, making the fine a matter of "controversy'' to some. But to our eyes this is a reasonable application of a rule meant to protect the vulnerable (and valuable) NFL QBs.

Tomlinson, by the way, is not alone in having been slapped with a fine in what would end up being a 33-17 Dallas win. Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has also been fined $16,883 for an unnecessary roughness penalty.

The 0-1 Browns now move on to Week 2 to play at the 0-1 Jacksonville Jaguars. Prescott and the 1-0 Cowboys meanwhile play host to the 1-0 New Orleans Saints today.
