Georgia Plummets In Updated ESPN FPI College Football Rankings

The No. 1 college football team in the nation wasn't the top team in Week 2 ESPN FPI rankings, and now the Georgia Bulldogs have fallen even further.

They escaped a close game in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday night running out the clock on the Kentucky Wildcats in a 13-12 win. The algorithm that determines the weekly "Football Power Index" took notice dropping the Bulldogs from their No. 2 spot in the rankings down to No. 5.

Not only are Bulldog fans expressing their frustration for falling three spots following an SEC road win, they're also not happy it's one spot behind one of their rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers.

"Sitting behind Tennessee heck nah," one Georgia fan posted on X.

That might be more of a statement on how dominant the Volunteers have been this season with new quarterback Nico Iamaleava. The Vols have failed to score fewer than 50 points in any of their first three games this season. One of those was against the then-ranked North Carolina St. Wolfpack and could explain Tennessee's top-four spot in the rankings.

The Bulldogs impressed in their Week 1 domination of the Clemson Tigers winning 34-3 before taking care of business against Tennessee Tech in Week 2 48-3. However, their low offensive output in week three against Kentucky cleary raised some red flags according to the updated FPI rankings.

The Bulldogs will need to pull it together before heading to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for a rematch against their seemingly annual foe in the SEC Championship Game. Kickoff for Week 5's matchup between the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 4-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
