Caitlin Clark Under Fire From Former WNBA Player for ‘Bad’ Decision

The Indiana Fever absorbed a tough 78-74 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces on Sept. 13, dropping their fourth game in 10 contests.

The game went down to the wire, with the Fever having the chance to take the lead with a little over one minute left. Down by a bucket, 72-70, rookie sensation Caitlin Clark pulled up from 30 feet with her familiar step-back. She, however, missed.

While the Fever still had multiple opportunities after that, fans pointed to Clark's audacious attempt as the reason for their close loss.

Former WNBA player Van Whiting didn't hold back on her comment after a fan posted a video of the play on X.

"It was a bad shot," Whiting said. "There was 15 seconds left on the shot clock and there was a mismatch in the paint."

The mismatch she was referring to was Fever center Aliyah Boston sealing her defender in the paint after setting a pick for Clark.

In another tweet, Whiting, who played for the Detroit Shock and the Minnesota Lynx in her three years in the WNBA, was more toned down with her opinion and compared Clark to NBA star Steph Curry.

Whiting has tweeted other criticisms of the 22-year-old Clark, including the alleged double standard in the league, which she described as "exhausting."

She tallied career averages of 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Clark had 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting and six turnovers in their loss to the Aces. She also tallied eight rebounds and nine assists, setting a new single-season record for assists.

The Fever were swept by the Aces in their four-game head-to-head series.
