The New Orleans Saints begin the season 2-0 after dropping the hammer on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Many didn't believe this Saints team would be playing so well right now considering how last season ended.

They looked phenomenal in Week 1 and that carried over into Week 2. Alvin Kamara has been on a tear, as he lit up the Cowboys for 180 total yards and four total touchdowns.

This performance by New Orleans now marks two games in a row where they've scored 40+ points on their opponents. The Saints beat the Carolina Panthers 47-10 then followed that up with a 44-19 victory over the Cowboys.

New Orleans' effective play to begin the season puts them in the NFL history books , according to Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times. The Saints are officially the eighth team in league history to record 40+ points in their first two games of the season.

Virtually nobody saw this coming from the Saints. After making little noise in the offseason, many believed New Orleans would be a middle-of-the-pack team. Especially considering they barely managed to finish over. 500 with a record of 9-8.

Despite that, New Orleans has done a great job of feeding the hot hand. Kamara is proving to be a monster, as usual. Meanwhile, both wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are playing well too.

Olave reeled in four receptions for 81 yards while Shaheed finished with four receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Derek Carr played well too, as he led the Saints on multiple touchdown scoring drives.

The 33-year-old quarterback finished Sunday's game against the Cowboys with 243 passing yards, three total touchdowns, and one interception. He connected on 11 of his 16 passing attempts to end the contest.

New Orleans surpassed the 40-point mark after Kamara ran into the end zone for the fourth time . It was a run to the left from seven yards out.

We'll see if the Saints can continue their ways and score 40+ points in Week 3. They move on and will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday 22, at 1 P.M. Eastern.

Based on how well they're playing, New Orleans can certainly maintain its winning streak against an Eagles team expected to be a playoff contender.
