Some near SEC upsets occurred in Week 3. The LSU Tigers escaped on the road against the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Georgia Bulldogs had a 13-12 win over the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Missouri Tigers had a narrow 27-21 victory over the Boston College Eagles.

LSU overcame a 17-0 deficit in the first half and went into halftime down 24-16. The Tigers then scored the first two touchdowns of the second half but missed a two-point conversion to go up 29-24.

South Carolina answered with a touchdown from running back Raheim Sanders and a field goal. LSU took the lead back with a two-yard run from Josh Williams. LSU held on for a 36-33 win after South Carolina missed a game-tying field goal.

In the second half, South Carolina fans experienced some frustrating plays. Garrett Nussmeier threw an interception to cornerback Nick Emmawori, which was nearly returned for a touchdown before an unnecessary roughness penalty called it back.

While Greg McElroy sympathized with Gamecocks fans, he noted on a recent " Always College Football " episode that the team would be a "huge problem."

"...That has to be remarkably frustrating to see one of your best players have a couple of big plays wiped off the board, but man, South Carolina, they're going to be a huge problem for everybody moving forward." McElroy said.

The Gamecocks came close to upsetting some ranked teams last season. In their 2023 season opener, South Carolina lost to the North Carolina Tar Heels 31-17. A few weeks later, the Georgia Bulldogs edged out a 24-14 win over South Carolina. The Clemson Tigers escaped Columbia with a 16-7 victory in the regular season finale of that year.

South Carolina takes on Akron in Week 4. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Last week, this clown said Arkansas, now it's South Carolina. Next week, it will be Mississippi State...I guess if he goes down the SEC list, he'll eventually get it right
