SEC College Football Playoff contenders like the Georgia Bulldogs, Missouri Tigers and LSU Tigers were all tested in Week 3. Georgia survived the Kentucky Wildcats with a 13-12 win, Missouri beat the Boston College Eagles 27-21, and LSU needed a missed game-tying field goal to beat the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Luckily for Georgia and Missouri, they are both in the top 10 and College Football Playoff spots. However, LSU was ranked No. 16 going into Week 3.

Greg McElroy stressed how important of a win it was over South Carolina for LSU on a recent edition of " Always College Football ." He believed it kept LSU's playoff hopes alive.

"...That was a resilient and gutsy performance from LSU," McElroy said. "They almost had to have that one. To start one and two in year three under Brian Kelly. That was a got-to-have-it situation to keep their playoff hopes alive."

LSU last went to the playoff in 2019 under former head coach Ed Orgeron. LSU beat the Clemson Tigers to win its first national title since 2007.

Current head coach Brian Kelly finished with 10 wins in 2022 and 2023 but has struggled to make the playoff. Last season, the Tigers lost to the Florida State Seminoles, Ole Miss Rebels and Alabama Crimson Tide, hurting their playoff chances.

LSU takes on the UCLA Bruins in Week 4. Kickoff is at 3:40 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN+.
