Ja'Marr Chase Under Fire for Late-Game Actions Against Chiefs

Ja'Marr Chase's frustration boiled over in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Chase got up irate after getting tackled by Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie. He got in the face of the officials and had to be physically pushed away by Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Chase was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and the 15-yard penalty nearly cost the Bengals the lead and three points. Cincinnati kicker Evan McPherson bailed out Chase, nailing a 53-yard field goal to give the Bengals a 25-23 lead.

Chase's tirade continued on the sideline. He barked at head coach Zac Taylor and tossed his helmet.

CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson provided some context on the situation.

"I'm standing right here and listening to him. He's still frustrated," Wolfson said in the fourth quarter. "He thought it was a hip drop. That's what he was upset about," Wolfson said. "He went down to the ground and cut open his elbow. He's got blood on his jersey and was frustrated, thinking it was a hip drop."

Fans were quick to call out Chase for his tantrum.

"Ja’Marr Chase seems like a miserable toddler. Have some control over yourself," one fan said .

"What is Ja'Marr Chase doing? Absolutely hurting his team's chances given the good field position the Bengals had," another fan said . "McDuffie has done such a good job on him in coverage all afternoon, so the frustration is palpable. But that is so unacceeptable."

Chase is in the midst of a contract dispute with the Bengals, with more details emerging prior to Sunday's game. Some theorized his lack of production — four catches for 35 yards — had something to do with it. Chase had six catches for 62 yards in the Bengals' Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots.

"Ja’Marr Chase overreacting to the point where Joe Burrow has to push him away while wanting a $140M extension is not a good look in a game that could determine home field advantage," a fan said .

Chase and the Bengals came out on the wrong side of the high-powered AFC clash, with Harrison Butker hitting a last-second field goal to secure a 26-25 victory for the Chiefs. With the loss, Cincinnati fell to 0-2 for a third straight season.
