Packers QB Malik Willis Gives Matt LaFleur An Answer We've Never Heard Before

Malik Willis has only been a member of the Green Bay Packers for a grand total of 20 days. Willis was slated to be a backup quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, however, with Mason Rudolph being named the Titans' backup out of camp, Willis became expendable.

On August 26th, the Packers came knocking, and acquired Willis from the Titans for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. And after Jordan Love went down with a knee injury in the final minute of a 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, Willis found himself as the starting QB for the Packers in Week 2.

Head coach, Matt LaFluer, and the offensive staff didn't ask Willis to do much in the passing game. Willis only attempted 14 passes, one of which was his first career touchdown pass (a 14-yard completion to Dontayvion Wicks in the first quarter). Willis finished the Packers' 16-10 victory 12-for-14 passing for 122 yards.

And while 14 pass attempts was enough to get the job done on Sunday, apparently LaFluer had written a 15th pass attempt into Sunday's script on a third down play late in the first half. Willis' answer for why he didn't throw the ball, is something WE'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE:

That's certainly a "new one". Packers' center, Josh Myers, has now thrown up in each of their first two games. For Willis' sake, let's hope this trend doesn't continue all season. When told some of his vomit ended up on the football, Myers said, "I tried to lean over. Dang, I'm going to have apologize for that one. That was probably pretty gross."

With Jordan Love expected to miss at least a month, Willis is lined up to start against his former team in Week 3. Let's hope the footballs are covered with less vomit, allowing Willis to attempt 15 passes -- or more.
