Concern Grows for Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco After 'Emotional' Postgame Update

The Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated in Week 2 after narrowly defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 26-25. Between numerous penalties and turnovers, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the offensive line left a lot to be desired.

Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco was one of the lone bright spots against Cincinnati before taking an awkward fall on his ankle during the last offensive drive. Pacheco, who recorded 19 carries for 90 yards and five catches for 21 yards against the Bengals, is the Chiefs' No. 1 running back, and the depth behind him isn't great.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid didn't provide a ton of information. "The only major injury would be Pacheco, with his ankle," Reid said. "We'll just have to see, he's having some tests done on it now, X-rays, all that stuff.

As for the severity of the injury, "I don't actually know right now," Reid answered. "I've just got to see.  They're doing all the stuff right now, so I haven't really had a chance to talk to him or anything there about it."

However, Pacheco exited Arrowhead Stadium on crutches and a walking boot, and the bad news kept coming.

Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick posted , "Pacheco was very emotional after the game and a number of coaches and teammates offered him condolences including Andy Reid.

"I’m told an Achilles injury is not suspected but more tests to be performed." The Kansas City Star's Jesse Newell noted how Pacheco had a "towel over his head with watery eyes" and how Reid "came over to wrap his arm around him before his own podium interview."

Should Pacheco need to miss any time, veteran Samaje Perine and undrafted rookie Carson Steele will need to step up. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is out for the first four games of the season after being placed on the NFI (non-football illness) list.

Hopefully, the Chiefs can get some positive news on Pacheco before taking on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.
