Tensions were running high in Sunday’s 20-16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit.

Though things got a bit chippy between the two teams, that paled in comparison to what happened after. According to the Detroit Free Press, two people were shot after a fight broke out at popular tailgate spot Eastern Market around 4:30 p.m. local time.

Detroit Police Chief James White confirmed that one person had died and another was in critical condition after the two men engaged in a scuffle outside of Shed 6. Both men raised their hands in a fighting stance and one pulled out a gun and fired two rounds.

“Tailgating, drinking and guns,” White said, via the Detroit Free Press . “They don’t mix. … It shouldn’t have led to this.”

White reported that a suspect in his 30s, who holds a license to carry a gun, was arrested at the scene, where two firearms were recovered. The man who was involved in the altercation with the shooter was fatally shot, while another victim, a Detroit native in his 20s, was also shot and remains hospitalized.

“You’ve got unfortunately two people shot, one dead,” White added. “And you have a suspect that’s in custody, that’s, you know, going to be dealing with some very serious charges…likely murder.”

White reportedly blamed the shooting as a result of living in a gun-obsessed society.
