NFL Announcer Under Fire for Controversial Comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Denver Broncos to improve to 2-0 for the first time in four years. But Fox Sports NFL analyst Mark Schlereth didn't see the win as a very big deal.

In fact, after the Steelers defeated the Broncos 13-6, Schlereth essentially told Pittsburgh fans to stop celebrating.

"Steelers fans you beat a rookie QB and a rebuilding team by a 7 ... don't break your arms patting yourselves on the back!"

Schlereth makes a fair point. The Steelers showed promise on offense with Justin Fields behind center again, as they did in Week 1. But despite finally reaching the end zone on September 15 for the first time this season, Pittsburgh only scored 13 points versus the Broncos.

In the second half, the Steelers had just 62 offensive yards.

The only problem with Schlereth's remark to Steelers fans, though, was that prior to the game, he didn't think the Steelers were going to win at all. Actually, Schlereth predicted the Broncos would win by 14 points.

"Broncos by two touchdowns," Schlereth said on Fox Sports' "Breakfast Ball" on September 13 .

It's possible Schlereth, who played six seasons for the Broncos, was being sarcastic with his prediction. He sort of made it in jest at the end of a segment just before a commercial break.

But Steelers fans took his prediction literally and let Schlereth know on social media after the contest that he was off by 21 points.

"You said we'd lose by 2 TDs," Steelers Nation wrote . "Eat your crow."

"Ohhh so now that the Broncos didn't win by 2 scores like you predicted, Mark, now the rookie QB card comes out," wrote Gavin Krott .

"Then why did you predict those teams would beat the Steelers?" wrote Brent .
