OKC’s Wallace and Jones make surprise appearance at local YMCA

No offseason is complete without the Oklahoma City Thunder giving back to their community. Throughout an eventful summer, the players have been volunteering in various Oklahoma communities, from hosting basketball youth camps to attending local events.

With the new NBA season right around the corner, Thunder star Cason Wallace and rookie guard Dillion Jones made a guest appearance at a local YMCA.

The Thunder continue community outreach

During the same week Aaron Wiggins, Jaylin Williams, and Ousmane Dieng contributed to a local food bank, and with the team announcing the 2024 Fan Fest , Wallace and Jones appeared at the Mitch Park YMCA to help coach boys and girls basketball scrimmages on Saturday.

The initiative was part and parcel of the Thunder’s overarching theme of encouraging players to connect with local communities during the offseason, which is part of the team’s Thunder Cares program.

"Fifty kids from local YMCAs across the metro got to experience a day in the life as a professional basketball player. In addition to the basketball scrimmages with Thunder players, the Youth Media Day included skills drills, the Thunder Film Room, mock interviews with Thunder entertainers, and a player photo shoot for every child. The event also included a banner reveal for each YMCA in attendance,” said a Thunder representative.

The team has been among the most active in the association this offseason, with its players frequently seen mingling with various communities and giving back in numerous ways. This is one of the final team-initiated offseason events as the 2024-25 NBA season gears up with Media Day and training camp right around the corner.
