San Antonio Spurs Could Sign Recent Los Angeles Laker Blake Hinson

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers waived wing Blake Hinson. He was an undrafted free agent who the Lakers signed for the summer, but as they go all-in on winning a title with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, they decided to part ways with the young sharpshooter.

Before the NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs invited Hinson to work out for them, and he was linked to them and the pre-draft process. His calling card is his scoring, and he could be a high-level off-ball NBA player, although he is 24 years old, so he doesn't have as much time to develop as younger prospects.

In his final college season at Pittsburgh, Hinson averaged 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting a blistering 42.1 percent from behind the arc. In eight Summer League games for the Lakers, he slowed down a bit, averaging only 10.8 points on 32.8 percent shooting from deep.

As an off-ball player, his playmaking and ball handling are not his strong suit. He has the frame to be a solid defender, but that was not his area of focus in college, so for now he is very much a one-dimensional player. However, the Spurs have time to develop high-upside talent, and his shooting numbers alone should garner a fair amount of interest around the league.

The Spurs recently waived Jamaree Bouyea, which opens up a two-way contract. While current exhibit 10 players Malachi Flynn, Riley Minix, and Brandon Boston Jr. are all worth consideration , expect Hinson to gain some traction.

He was regarded as one of the best undrafted players available this summer, so the Spurs will not be the only team showing interest in the former Pittsburgh Panther.
