The Michigan Wolverines have started the season 2-1 with the lone loss coming to the Texas Longhorns in Week 2. However, in Week 3, head coach Sherrone Moore made a change at quarterback during the game against Arkansas State.

Davis Warren threw for just 122 yards with zero scores and three interceptions, and Moore inserted Alex Orji into the game.

On Monday, Moore announced he is making the change and named Orji the starter, per Austin Meek of The Athletic.

"Alex Orji will be Michigan’s starting QB against USC, Sherrone Moore says," Meek said.

Orji also had three carries for 27 yards and he threw a touchdown pass in the Week 1 blowout against Fresno State.

Warren has struggled this season after being named the starter. The senior has thrown for 44 yards with just a pair of touchdowns and six interceptions through three games.

Orji, on the other hand, has seen time as a runner in a change-of-pace role for the Wolverines.

The Michigan offense has gotten off to a bit of a slow start. They scored 30 points in the Week 1 win over Fresno State, although Orji had one passing touchdown and Will Johnson had a pick-six in that game.

In Week 2 against Texas, Warren had just one touchdown pass in the final minutes of a blowout Texas win.

So, it was evident a change was in order. Michigan begins Big Ten Conference play with a home game against USC in Week 4 and then two games against Minnesota and Washington before a Week 7 open date.
