Los Angeles Lakers rookie head coach JJ Redick repeatedly mentioned during his introductory press conference that he wanted to improve the team's 28th-ranked 3-point shooting.

Redick wanted the Lakers to surround stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis with more shooters.

The Lakers found an unpolished gem in undrafted rookie Blake Hinson, who shot 42.1% from the 3-point range in his final season in college.

Hinson showed promising signs his outside shooting would translate at the pro level when he hit at least four 3-pointers in three of his NBA Summer League games.

The 6-foot-8 gunner even ended his Lakers campaign in the NBA Summer League with 25 points and five 3-pointers in a 107-81 rout of the Chicago Bulls.

But apparently, it was still not enough to guarantee his roster spot.

Lakers fans were shocked when Hoopshype's Michael Scotto reported Hinson was waived.

Almost all of the replies in Scotto's tweet were from angry Lakers fans who cannot wrap the head-scratching decision around their heads.

One X user said : "Lmaoo the Lakers organization is comedy."

Another X user said : "Why does Rob Pelinka still have a job?"

"Trash organization," replied another fan .

A Lakers fan wrote : 6’8 and can shoot, and we just give him away."

"Dumb move! Guards can’t throw a rock in the ocean but you get rid of a laser," another fan wrote .

Even Anthony Irwin of the LA Daily found the Lakers move a "little weird." He added he was hoping they would have waived Frenchman forward Armel Traoré instead of Hinson.

Their latest signing, 7-foot center Christian Koloko, takes over Hinson's spot.

Koloko joins Traoré and second-year center Colin Castleton as the Lakers' two-way players this season.
