On Sunday afternoon, the reigning Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs took down the visiting Cincinnati Bengals in a 25-26 thriller at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs trailed 22-17 heading into the fourth quarter. But just as he's done on so many occasions before, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes led his team on a game-winning drive in the final period..

Down by two, Mahomes brought the Chiefs' offense down the field. A defensive pass interference call on an attempted pass to second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice put Kansas City in field goal position, setting up Harrison Butker for the game-winning kick.

Veteran analyst Tony Romo was in the booth for this nationally-televised CBS broadcast.

Romo has developed a reputation for his sometimes-overwhelming praise of Mahomes. And he furthered that reputation with a comment early in Sunday's game.

With the Chiefs in the redzone during the first quarter, Mahomes threw a ball at the feet of tight end Travis Kelce.

"This is Mahomes throwing it in the dirt on purpose... He's got such great instincts... He sees everything. That's a winning play," Romo said.

Fans are roasting Romo for this comment.

"Romo has to be doing this on purpose at this point," one fan wrote.

"This was just a bad throw, Romo gonna Romo," another added.

"Caught this live, the mahomes groveling is pure unadulterated cringe," another said.

"Like only Tony Romo would say this," another wrote.

Mahomes finished Sunday's win with 151 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 18/25 passing.

The Chiefs will continue their 2024 regular-season schedule with a Week 3 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
