Chiefs Nearing Reunion with RB Following Concerning Update on Isiah Pacheco

Isiah Pacheco is heading to injured reserve, and the Kansas City Chiefs may look to a familiar face to bolster their backfield depth.

Pacheco went down with a leg injury during the Chiefs' 26-25 victory on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Pacheco is set to undergo surgery and will go on injured reserve, missing a minimum of four games.

Pacheco's punishing running style quickly made him a fan favorite in Kansas City. He's reeled off 1,900 yards over 26 starts with 13 touchdowns.

The Chiefs' 53-man roster currently includes veteran running back Samaje Perine and fullback Carson Steele. Emani Bailey and Keaontay Ingram are on the practice squad. Veteran Clyde Edwards-Helaire is on the non-football illness list.

In need of another proven option, the Chiefs are set to host Kareem Hunt , who started his career in Kansas City.

"With RB Isiah Pacheco expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks, the Chiefs are bringing their former RB Kareem Hunt back to Kansas City for a Tuesday visit, per league sources," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. "Hunt could help fill the Chiefs’ running back void."

Hunt's history with the Chiefs is complicated. The team released him after a video surfaced in 2018 showing him involved in an altercation with a woman at a Cleveland hotel.

His release came after two strong seasons on the field in Kansas City. He led the league in rushing as rookie, notching 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns signed Hunt and paired him with Nick Chubb for four seasons from 2019-22. Hunt was a free agent last offseason but signed back with the Browns after Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Hunt collected 2,285 yards and 25 touchdowns in a Browns uniform. He hadn't had much interest as a free agent this offseason but could find a home back in Kansas City.
