The Florida State Seminoles suffered their third 0-3 start in program history in Week 3 after losing to Memphis. They are also the first top 10 preseason program to lose to three consecutive unranked teams.

Florida State lost to Memphis by a score of 20-12 in Tallahassee. The Seminoles have yet to win a game at home this season.

In a recent " Always College Football " episode, Greg McElroy tore into Florida State. He discussed how people have treated Florida State as "America's punching bag" since the College Football Playoff snub in 2023 and the program's challenge of the ACC Grant of Rights.

McElroy stated that Florida State is not a good football team.

"People are just treating Florida State as America's punching bag because of their antics and ridiculousness in December of last year and how they've been challenging the ACC Grant of Rights," McElroy said. "Like everybody loves to hate Florida State, and that's fine. Florida State's just not a good football team."

McElroy could not find one position group for Florida State that had lived up to expectations this season. From quarterback to offensive line to running backs to receivers, none looked like a solid group to him.

DJ Uiagalelei has 666 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions this season. Lawrence Toafili leads the running backs with 67 yards rushing through three games. The team's leading wideout is Malik Benson, with 167 receiving yards.

Florida State's offensive line has allowed eight sacks this season, the fourth-most in the ACC.

"...I know people have pointed to, 'No, it's completely different. No, it's a different team, different personnel.'" McElroy said. "I agree it's different personnel. DJ Uiagalelei, so far, has not been good. The offensive line's been terrible based on the expectations that we had coming into the season. The running game has been way too hit-or-miss, and the receivers are a disappointment."

McElroy believed the root of Florida State's problems was the playoff snub. He described the team's performance so far as lifeless because of it. Before last season, Florida State made the playoffs only once, in 2014.

"...But I believe that because Florida made themselves into a victim last year after being snubbed by the College Football Playoff," McElroy said. "They decided to boycott the Orange Bowl and got embarrassed. That has a carryover effect into this year's season, and they are playing lifeless football as a result."

Florida State's quest for its first win continues in Week 4. The Seminoles take on the California Golden Bears on Sept. 21. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
