Joel Klatt Says Debate is Over on Travis Hunter's Heisman Hopes

Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt delivered a strong endorsement of Colorado's two-way star Travis Hunter, emphasizing his legitimate chances of being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Hunter has continued to produce at unprecedented levels on both sides of the ball. On offense, he's recorded three consecutive 100-yard games to open the season, adding five touchdowns. Hunter is also the Buffaloes top cornerback, nabbing an interception against Colorado State.

Klatt believes Hunter will end up in New York at the end of the season as a Heisman finalist.

“Colorado’s probably not going to the playoff. Colorado’s probably not winning the national championship. And Travis Hunter probably belongs in New York,” Klatt said on his show on Monday.

Hunter's Heisman odds are currently +3,500 ( per DraftKings ). He sits behind 10 quarterbacks and standout Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. Florida State quarterback Cam Ward is the front-runner after Week 3 at +550.

However, Klatt believes Hunter will be in the mix if he keeps producing at his current level.

“I know it’s only three games, but if he continues this at all, like at all — a percentage of what he’s doing — he belongs in New York. Another 123 snaps. That is bonkers, by the way. And those 123 snaps for Travis Hunter? Season low: 59 on offense, 64 on defense. He had 13 catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns. That’s like Biletnikoff style numbers.

“Oh, and he had five tackles and an incredible interception, which he returned for 38 yards. And oh by the way, he ran down a CSU ball carrier after a 62-yard run. I mean, the guy is just like — he’s absolutely phenomenal.”

Hunter and Colorado will look to move to 3-1 this week with a home matchup against Baylor.
