The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off their Super Bowl triumph, find themselves in urgent need of a running back after losing top rusher Isaiah Pacheco to a fractured fibula.

Reports have emerged that the Chiefs are exploring the possibility of bringing back a familiar face — former Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt is reportedly scheduled to visit with the Chiefs.

Hunt, who originally began his NFL career with Kansas City, was the league's leading rusher in his rookie season in 2017, posting 1,327 rushing yards. However, his time with the Chiefs was cut short in 2018 after a video surfaced showing him involved in an off-field incident, leading to his release in late November that year.

Hunt's second chance in the NFL came with the Cleveland Browns , who signed him in the 2019 offseason, allowing him to restart his career closer to home in Willoughby, Ohio. Over the next five seasons, Hunt emerged as a vital component of the Browns' backfield, endearing himself to fans through his hard-nosed running style and versatility.

In 2023, Hunt stepped up following Nick Chubb’s season-ending injury, delivering a career-high nine touchdowns and becoming the Browns' primary offensive spark. He finished the season with 411 rushing yards on 135 attempts, contributing significantly to Cleveland's playoff push.

As the Chiefs search for a replacement for Isaiah Pacheco, Hunt’s past with Kansas City — where he first led the NFL in rushing during his rookie year — makes him an intriguing option. Hunt, standing 5'11" and weighing 216 pounds, has accumulated 4,436 rushing yards over his 91-game career on 1,030 carries.

With a proven track record of stepping up in critical moments, he could be the solution Kansas City needs to bolster their backfield during Pacheco’s absence.

As the Chiefs consider bringing Kareem Hunt back into the fold, the Browns turn their focus to their upcoming Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants. Cleveland, still adjusting to life without Hunt and looking to find rhythm in their backfield, will face a Giants team eager for its first win of the season.

The Browns will need a strong performance to avoid falling into an early-season hole, hoping to capitalize on their opportunities and tighten their defense as they look to bounce back and keep pace in a competitive AFC North.
