The Carolina Panthers stunned everybody by deciding to bench Bryce Young and roll with veteran Andy Dalton as the starting quarterback.

Young, the 2023 No. 1 draft pick, has struggled since coming into the league and has yet to throw a touchdown pass in two games in 2024. As a result, the Panthers are pivoting to Dalton in hopes of being more competitive.

However, the move has been met with plenty of criticism, especially with all of the turnover in the past year and a half in Carolina. NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. weighed in on the Panthers' decision with an epic rant on "Get Up" on Tuesday.

"I think it's mishandled," Kiper stated. "When you drafted Bryce Young, you knew he was an outlier."

Kiper mentioned Young's size coming into the NFL draft and how that was always a sticking point. However, the biggest thing Kiper brought up was the change in Carolina.

The Panthers fired Frank Reich in the middle of the 2023 season, then brought in another new head coach in Dave Canales. They also brought in a new offensive coordinator, and Kiper mentioned the success of Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud for their panic.

Despite the changes in the offense, the Panthers decided not to play Young in the preseason except for one game, and even that was brief. That fact also sparked outrage from Kiper.

"C.J. Stroud played in two preseason games," Kiper pointed out. "Derek Carr played in two preseason games. Bryce Young played one series in the final preseason against the nobody...Does that make sense?

Young played in the preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills and went 6-for-8 for 70 yards with a touchdown. However, that was the only preseason action he saw.

Now, Young is moving to the bench after a sluggish start to the regular season.

"Yes, his confidence was shattered," Kiper continued. "Yes, he does need to sit behind Andy Dalton for a little bit. But the blame on Bryce Young is ridiculous. The blame goes to the organization, the owner for a mishandling."

All in all, Kiper is placing the blame on the Panthers organization and ownership for what he calls a "mishandling." For the time being, it will be Dalton who is the starter, and it will be interesting to see if they end up inserting Young back into the lineup sometime soon.
