Chiefs Urged to Steal Legendary NFL Running Back's Son From AFC Rival

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a big blow in Week 2 after starting running back Isiah Pacheco was ruled out for "approximately 6-8 weeks" with a fibula injury.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, September 16, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid acknowledged that general manager Brett Veach is exploring adding another running back to the roster. According to reports , former Chiefs star Kareem Hunt visited the team on Tuesday, but he needs to pass a physical before a signing can be completed.

In addition to a possible Hunt reunion, other names are being thrown around as fill-ins during Pacheco's extended absence.

Bleacher Report has urged the defending Super Bowl champion to sign the son of legendary NFL running back Frank Gore to their roster instead.

"Frank Gore Jr. is a powerful runner who could contribute as part of a rotation with the Chiefs now without their lead runner," B/R's Alex Ballentine wrote. "He doesn't have the breakaway speed that Pacheco brings to the table, but he's a patient runner with the ability to get yards between the tackles."

Gore Jr. is currently on the practice squad of the AFC rival Buffalo Bills, so the Chiefs would need to have an open spot — or create one — on the 53-man roster to steal him away from Buffalo's control.

The 22-year-old initially went undrafted out of the Southern Miss after April's 2024 NFL draft. During his four-year collegiate career, Gore Jr. racked up 4,714 scrimmage yards and 30 total touchdowns (26 rushing).

Gore's dad, who last played in 2020, rushed for exactly 16,000 yards and 81 touchdowns during his 16-year NFL career, including one season in Buffalo in 2019.
