Chiefs Sign Former Rushing Leader After Isiah Pacheco Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs are adding a familiar face to their backfield, reuniting with veteran Kareem Hunt following an injury to starter Isiah Pacheco.

The move was officially announced on Tuesday. Hunt will initially start on the practice squad in Kansas City but has a good chance of being active for game day soon.

"The Chiefs are signing their own former star RB Kareem Hunt, who visited with and worked out for the team today," Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday. "He'll start on the PS and help fill the void left by Isiah Pacheco’s injury, which will put him out potentially two months."

Chiefs running back Isaiah Pacheco suffered a leg injury during Sunday's 26-25 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He is scheduled for surgery and will be placed on injured reserve and is projected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Hunt had a standout but short-lived tenure with the Chiefs. Drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Hunt made an immediate impact in his rookie season. He led the NFL in rushing yards (1,327) and was named to the Pro Bowl. Hunt continued his strong performance into the 2018 season, showing versatility as both a runner and receiver.

However, his time with the Chiefs came to an abrupt end in November 2018 after video footage surfaced of him involved in an altercation with a woman. The Chiefs quickly released him, citing the incident and Hunt's dishonesty about the situation as the reasons for his dismissal.

He later signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2019, where he had success as Nick Chubb's running mate. Over five seasons, Hunt collected 2,285 yards and 25 touchdowns with the Browns. He added 1,057 yards and another seven touchdowns as a receiver.

The Chiefs take on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday with a chance to move to 3-0.
