Texas Longhorns Make Arch Manning Announcement After Week 3

There had been plenty of buzz around former five-star quarterback Arch Manning when he first enrolled at Texas prior to 2023, but up until this past weekend, fans had never seen him play significant snaps in a real game.

This doesn't mean they weren't calling for him at every waking moment possible, but he had only played in small doses. In what was his first chance to play significant snaps, he took the internet by storm.

Manning came in to relieve an injured Quinn Ewers in the second quarter of Texas' Week 3 game against UTSA and proved that he was worth the wait and hype.

His performance in the 56-7 win led to him earning multiple honors , with the program announcing a third award on Tuesday. After already being named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week and being named to the Davey O’Brien Award's "Great 8," it was announced via social media that he was also named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week.

While Manning came into the game with just 11 career passes in garbage time, he played as if he had started 30 games at the college level.

He finished having completed 9-of-12 passes (75%) for 223 yards, while adding four touchdowns through the air and one on the ground, a run that saw him race down the field as fast as Tyreek Hill's top speed last NFL season, en route to a historic 67-yard touchdown run.

As revealed by ESPN , his long scamper was the longest run by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young was running over defenses while leading the Longhorns to their 2005 title.

It is still unclear if Manning will earn his first-career start on Saturday against Louisiana Monroe as head coach Steve Sarkisian said Ewers was "questionable, " but Texas does have a great idea of what Manning is capable of if thrown into the fire.
