Steve Sarkisian Compares Arch Manning to Former First-Round Pick

    By Kevin Matthew Borba,

When Arch Manning took over for Quinn Ewers this past Saturday against UTSA, it was evident that the two were different types of quarterbacks right away.

While they both have strong arms and are accurate, the biggest thing that sets them apart is their mobility. Ewers has shown some willingness to take off for a few yards here and there, but he is most mobile when it comes to moving around in the pocket.

When it comes to Manning, he poses a legitimate threat to the defenses with his legs, as we saw on his 67-yard touchdown run. A scamper that happened to be the longest run by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young in 2005.

When talking about Manning earlier this week, Sarkisian revealed that Manning reminded him of former Washington quarterback Jake Locker who he coached during his stint in Seattle.

"He was a physical guy like Arch, really put together well, but he was a real runner and at that time, we weren't very good, so I had to run him and it probably wasn't fair to him," Sarkisian said of Locker. "He got beat up some along the way."

Not a bad comparison, considering Locker went down as a program legend at Washington and was also taken with the No. 8 pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Regardless of who is behind center, it's clear that Texas has two of the most dangerous quarterbacks in college football. Ewers went into the UTSA game as the frontrunner for the Heisman, while Manning left the game with improved Heisman odds.

It's unclear who gets the nod this week, but Texas knows they are in good hands following the 56-7 win.
