Sabrina Ionescu Ignites Speculation About WNBA Future With Cryptic Social Media Post

The WNBA saw some major news break on Wednesday morning with the announcement that a new expansion team is heading to Portland, Oregon, starting in 2026.

It now appears that more change could be coming in the shape of a potential free agency move for one of the WNBA's biggest stars — New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu.

The Triple-Double Queen had a cryptic social media post about the new expansion team on Wednesday, reposting the WNBA announcement to her Instagram story. The state of Oregon is close to Ionescu's heart, as she played her college basketball in Eugene with the Oregon Ducks and launched her career less than two hours from the Rose City.

To make things more interesting, Ionescu becomes a free agent in 2026, so she could very well end up in Portland to lead the new team, should she choose.

Does Ionescu's post about the new expansion team close to her home mean that she is going to leave the Liberty and forge a new path in the Pacific Northwest? Of course not for certain. But it is an interesting prospect for one of the young superstars in the league as she continues her career and looks like build out her legacy even farther down the road.
