Bryce Young’s True Feelings on Panthers’ Decision Revealed in New Report

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, recently had his feelings exposed after learning he would be benched in favor of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.

Since being drafted first overall, Young has faced significant struggles. Some have questioned whether his performance is due to his own play or the lack of talent around him, coupled with a new head coach this season. These factors have ultimately led to his benching.

According to an ESPN report released on Wednesday, September 18, Young's emotions about head coach Dave Canales’ decision were made clear, and he is not taking it well.

“First, Young was not only shocked by the decision but also upset,” wrote ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler . “He’s pissed, a source added. And that’s understandable, given the quick hook. But the decision goes beyond the poor play through two games.”

Young finished his rookie season completing less than 60 percent of his passes (59.8%), throwing for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Things haven't improved much in his second year; through two games, his passer rating (44.1) is down over 30 points from last year, and he has thrown zero touchdowns to three interceptions.

“The Panthers saw a tentative quarterback whose confidence was clearly affected,” added Fowler. “The receivers were growing frustrated. So the Panthers weighed this question: Can they wait for Young’s confidence to return or will the continued poor play of the offense risk losing the team?”

Whether Young needs a fresh start on another team or this is just a temporary benching, one thing is for certain—he’s not happy with the decision.
