It has been nearly three weeks since Coco Gauff suffered an upset defeat in the third round of the US Open. This came at the hands of fellow American Emma Navarro, who emerged victorious against Gauff after a three-set match.

Gauff ended her US Open title defense in disappointment, which incidentally, also follows her failed bid in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she also lost in the third round after a controversial turn of events .

On Wednesday, September 18, Gauff announced that she had decided to part ways with coach Brad Gilbert, who has been by her side for the past 14 months. The 20-year-old tennis sensation took to X, formerly Twitter, to send a heartfelt message of thanks to Gilbert amid their separation.

"Thank you @bgtennisnation ! We had an incredible run and I wish you all the best in the future!" Gauff wrote.

While this may have come as a bit of a surprise, most of her fans are all saying the same thing about this major decision. Gauff's supporters believe that this was the right thing for her to do at this point in her career.

"So glad ! You will do great things 🔥" said a fan.

"hmm. I hated to see this relationship severed, but it was needed prior to Wimbledon, to me. I knew that it would end this way, because the decline was enormous. Brad, you will bounce back. Just not sure you will land another big fish with $$$ like Coco!" a comment read.

"Awesome run but I'm glad the decision was made. Stay focused and be proud of your success. Can't wait to see who your next coach will be..I think it should be your father. yes, going back to your roots; where and how it all started," suggested a supporter.

"Good decision and expected! Cant wait to see those trainer transfers!" another said.

"Coco, you can go get at least a dozen grand slam. You just need the right entourage! Let's go!!! I am behind you!" commented tennis coach Mathias Degardin.

Gilbert, who himself was a former professional tennis player who has 20 singles career titles to his name, has responded to Gauff's message.

Based on the coach's statement, it appears that the split has been amicable.

"Thanks 🙏 to @CocoGauff and the entire team for an absolutely amazing summer run in 2023 and for 14 months of incredible team effort. Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright, and I wish you nothing but continued success ahead. I’m excited for the next chapter in my Coaching career. 👊👍💪🎾" he wrote on X.

It was under Gilbert's guidance that Gauff won the US Open in 2023, which remains the young tennis phenom's one and only Grand Slam title to date.
