Kirk Herbstreit Names NFL Rookie QB Who is 'The Real Deal'

The 2024 NFL draft class was full of top-tier quarterback talent. In the first 12 picks, six quarterbacks were selected. Those six players are as follows:

• Caleb Williams - Chicago Bears (No. 1)
• Jayden Daniels - Washington Commanders (No. 2)
• Drake Maye - New England Patriots (No. 3)
• Michael Penix Jr. - Atlanta Falcons (No. 8)
• J.J. McCarthy - Minnesota Vikings (No. 10)
• Bo Nix - Denver Broncos (No. 12)

However, three weeks into the NFL season, "Thursday Night Football" commentator Kirk Herbstreit believes one of these rookie quarterbacks is "the real deal." This honor goes to Daniels.

"I’m a bengals fan but damn…how good is Jayden Daniels as a rookie?!??" Herbstreit wrote on X. "Not just the physical ability..but the composure and understanding of the scheme! Playing with ridiculous poise on the big stage on MNF on the road. Absolutely the REAL DEAL. Gotta tip your cap man. Also great job by Kliff Kingsbury for being in sync with his boys-Impressive!!"

Herbstreit, who also serves as an analyst on ESPN's "College GameDay," made this post towards the end of the Commanders' 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on "Monday Night Football."

Daniels had easily the best game of his young career, completing 21-of-23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 39 yards and another score on the ground. The former LSU Tigers star has led Washington to a 2-1 record to start the season and the top spot in the NFC East standings.

On the season, Daniels has tallied 664 passing yards and two passing touchdowns, both of which came on Monday night. He has shown his dual-threat ability as well, with 171 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

It may be too early to know for sure, but Washington looks like they finally have their QB of the future.
