The Kansas City Chiefs made a controversial signing on Tuesday to improve their backfield. The Chiefs needed to add depth at running back with Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve and Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the NFI list.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Chiefs signed Kareem Hunt to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. In a corresponding move, they waived Keontay Ingraham.

This is Hunt's second stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs released Hunt in 2018 after a video appeared of the running back pushing a woman to the ground and kicking her outside of his residence.

Authorities did not proceed with criminal charges after the woman refused to cooperate with local prosecutors.

Last week, the Chiefs signed Hunt to the practice squad. Per Adam Teicher with ESPN, head coach Andy Reid said Hunt had " grown up " since the incident.

"We just thought he needed a change of scenery and get some help and take care of business there and we felt like he did that," Reid said. "He did a nice job in Cleveland, and we talked to the people there and there were no issues there, so we felt OK by bringing him back."

Hunt has 4,436 yards and 40 touchdowns on 1,030 carries in his eight-year NFL career. At 29, he's appeared in 91 games and started in 38.

The Chiefs have had several questionable legal issues with players in recent history, such as Tyreek Hill and Rashee Rice. The Chiefs chose to let the legal process play out with them.

Hunt's case was used as an example of the Chiefs taking a stand by cutting a player before the legal process took its course. The Chiefs are now giving him a second chance at a moment of great need for the team.

Nothing controversial about this. Constant horrible “journalism.” He’s been playing in the league for years.
