Richard Sherman Gives Brutally Honest Assessment of Travis Hunter's NFL Future

Colorado's two-way star Travis Hunter has again taken the world of college football world by storm, and now he is becoming the center of early NFL draft discussions.

He shines at both receiver and corner, and unlike other two-way stars of the past like Adoree Jackson, Charles Woodson or even Champ Bailey, he never leaves the field. According to Fox , Hunter leads college football in most snaps played with 532, which is 169 more than Nevada's Kitan Crawford, who ranks second despite having played one more game than Hunter.

While seemingly everything he does is mesmerizing and undoubtedly rare, people are already debating which position he will play in the NFL. He and his head coach, Deion Sanders, have suggested he wants to play both ways, but others don't think that is feasible.

The latest person to denounce it as possible is former Seattle Seahawks star corner Richard Sherman. The five-time All-Pro corner revealed on the "St. Brown Podcast" that he thinks fatigue would play too much of a factor at the next level and that teams would use Hunter playing both ways against him.

"We’re not playing 50 snaps on offense and 55 snaps on defense,” Sherman said . “Boy those coordinators on offense, they’re going to test you. These quarterbacks are going to say, ‘Hey let’s see how in shape you are by the end of the fourth quarter. We just saw you run three go routes, I’m about to bring our third receiver in to run you on three more go routes, and then let Amon-Ra go ahead and do work baby.'”

Sherman also revealed that he sees Hunter making more of an impact on defense than he would on offense, expressing that his future is at corner.

“I think he goes as a corner just because receivers his size… he’s not a special size, super dynamic route runner,” Sherman said. “He’s a great athlete and he’s smooth so he can get it done. I’m sure if he focused on receiver he could be elite, but as a corner, he just looks natural. It’s back to catching a ball and he’s in position all the time. He’s breaking right, he has a good feel for it, and it’s so rare.”

Only time will tell what Hunter's workload will look like at the next level, but it doesn't seem realistic to think he will be playing both ways. Notable stars like Patrick Peterson, Deion Sanders and Mike Vrabel each dabbled in both sides of the ball during their playing days, but there really hasn't been an NFL player who is a true two-way player on offense and defense in the modern era.

It doesn't mean it's impossible, but whichever NFL team drafts him early in this year's draft will likely want to make sure they get the most out of him. The best way to do that is to limit wear and tear, which may ultimately mean focusing on one position and having certain packages at the other.

On the year, Hunter has 37 catches for 472 yards and five scores on offense, with 14 total tackles, two pass deflections, and a pick on defense.

He gave his opinion. It wasn’t a brutal one. It was just an honest one. There was nothing wrong with what he said.
