Eagles Move WR To IR; A.J. Brown & DeVonta Smith OUT at Bucs?

    By Mike Fisher,

SEPT 25 WR WOES The Eagles play at Tampa Bay this weekend and could be without their three most productive receivers. All-Pro receiver A.J. Brown has missed the previous two games with a hamstring injury. DeVonta Smith is in the concussion protocol after taking that big hit during the Eagles’ 15-12 win at New Orleans last week.

And Britain Covey was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. ... all of which means it is about time Jahan Dotson - who came to the Eagles recently in a trade with Washington that was predicted to be impactful - finds a way to contribute.

SEPT 24 MORE SNIPING Dallas Cowboys' weekend contests or his individual performance, Micah Parsons makes sure to keep himself in the sports news cycle into the start of a new week.

His evaluations or sometimes "hot takes" make waves on social media with clippings from his Bleacher Report show "The Edge with Micah Parsons." The attention from the show has become an accepted reality with him, even when he sparks ridiculous debates.

Parsons has manufactured yet another futile exchange, this time with Philadelphia Eagles cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson. After the Eagles win over the New Orleans Saints, Gardner-Johnson exclaimed "They ain't no contenders they're pretenders. They have Derek Carr remember that."

Which inclined Parsons to respond, saying about the defensive back: "I don't know who [CJ Gardner-Johnson] thinks he is," Parsons said. "We've been dealing with this cat for a while."

That of course, prompted another response from Gardner-Johnson, writing on X "Fam the league knows who I am (forget the narrative)!! You can check my track record and how I over came a lot! Won a lot more playoff games than you too my guy."

SEPT 21 BILL'S TAKE The New York Jets are still dealing with Haason Reddick's holdout following his trade from the Eagles ... a situation that has a legendary coach ripping the former team and praising the latter.

“You look at a team like Philadelphia … they’ve also put together a pretty good roster,” former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said on Tom Brady's Let's Go Podcast. “They continue to make great moves, like signing Bryce Huff and trading away Reddick, giving that problem to somebody else.”

Of course, one can't help but think when it comes to the presently-out-of-work Belichick, his comments might be putting down the groundwork for his future.

Praise the Eagles front office so Howie Roseman will hire him next year? Rip the Jets front office so New York ownership will hire him next year? Hmm.

Belichick spurning the Jets for making the decision to trade for Reddick without giving him a long-term contract appears to be par for the course for New York.SEPT 20 HAASON SPEAKS The world has finally heard from ex-Eagles pass-rusher Haason Reddick. Reddick, traded from Philly to the Jets this offseason, has been a contract holdout since just after his introductory press conference last April.

But on Thursday - as "his'' Jets were prepping for what would be an Aaron Rodgers-led home win over the Patriots - Reddick showed up on Twitter with a post that is "cryptic'' ... because that's what guys do nowadays.

Wrote Reddick : "God will always make a way."

That's Reddick's first public communication since July 13, when he posted a photo of himself in a samurai outfit.

Reddick has racked up more than $8 million in fines and was punished to the tune of another $800,000 for missing the game against New England.

SEPT 14 DEPTH TEST The Philadelphia Eagles could be down not one but two receivers when they play host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night.

The A.J. Brown issue? That's the big one as he is dealing with a late-week hamstring issue. But additionally, rookie Johnny Wilson is also listed as questionable with the same ailment. Neither guy was able to participate in practice on Saturday.

It's fortunate, then, that the Eagles just traded for Jahan Dotson from Washington. His job in general was the be the No. 3 receiver. But that is now subject to change.

If neither wideout can go, the Eagles will be thin at the spot. DeVonta Smith will top the depth chart. But Dotson will be key. And so will Britain Covey - and in fact, at the moment, those are the only three healthy receivers on the roster. Another next-man-up likelihood? The Eagles would surely elevate Parris Campbell from the practice squad.

AUG 28 BARKLEY'S BIG The move of running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles from New York is a headline-grabber ... and a rankings success.

In ESPN’s top 100 player s ranking for the upcoming season, Barkley comes in 48th.

“Working behind a stout offensive line and alongside playmakers such as Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Barkley has had plenty of space to operate in during training camp,” Tim McManus wrote. “He has flashed the combination of speed and power that made him so successful over six seasons with the Giants.

New York and Barkley will reunite in Weeks 7 and 18.

AUG 26 CUTS The Eagles on Monday afternoon released DB Parry Nickerson, OLB Julian Okwara, G Max Scharping and QB Will Grier, the former Dallas Cowboys preseason folk hero.

The Philly roster, along with those of the other 31 NFL teams, needs to get down to 53 by Tuesday afternoon.

AUG 25 BANNED FOR LIFE? Ed Kelce, father of NFL big shots Jason (just retired from the Eagles) and Travis (starring with the Chiefs), says he has been "banned for life'' from X, formerly known as Twitter, because billionaire boss Elon Musk and/or his staff is taking issue with Ed's online discussion about arms dealers and their alleged ties to X ...

Who Ed says "are free to peddle their wares on X, but I'm banned for life and they won't say why, just a generic ‘Terms Of Service’ violation," as he wrote.

AUG 11 NEW MAN No, it's not that former Broncos safety.

The Eagles have signed Caden Sterns - yes, he is a former Broncos safety and they have released just-signed linebacker Shaq Quarterman.

Caden Sterns is no Justin Simmons, the All-Pro who remains on the free agency shelf.

But Caden Sterns will have to do. At least for now.

AUG 11 LAZARD TO EAGLES? To be clear, this is a "media proposal,'' not a team proposal.

But it's floating around out there: The Philadelphia Eagles should add to a wideout room presently topped by AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith by calling the New York Jets on vet Allen Lazard.

We're not sure why the Eagles are listed as a possible landing spot for Lazard by USA Today. ... but if there is any fire beneath the smoke?

We wonder - beyond the cap savings of moving Lazard - what the Jets get out of this "proposal.'' USA Today wants Philly to trade a "late-round pick'' for Lazard. ... But maybe they should ask his buddy Aaron Rodgers ...

Would you rather have Lazard now?

Or a "late-round pick'' for a time when you might no longer even be here?
