Tensions between the Boston Bruins and their unsigned goalie Jeremy Swayman have reached a new high after Ryan Whitney of Spittin’ Chiclets publicly claimed the team had “lowballed” Swayman in contract negotiations.

This is the latest chapter in a saga involving the Bruins, Swayman, general manager Don Sweeney, and former NHL player Whitney.

This time, Whitney's comments came in response to Sweeney’s recent frustration and comments over supposed "false reports" shared by Whitney , calling out the podcaster.

Whitney didn’t hold back, asserting that he knows for a fact the Bruins made a low offer to Swayman and have mishandled the entire negotiation process.

"They completely fumbled these negotiations," Whitney said. “I stand by what I was told. He’s gonna call me a liar, I think he’s fudging a little bit.

"Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle. But I knew the offer and it was a lowball, slap in the face offer and this is a players podcast.”

Initially, Whitney claimed that the Bruins had failed to pick up the phone for three weeks to talk with Swayman, which fostered Sweeney's response.

"My son loves (Spittin’ Chiclets co-host Paul Bissonnette) and thinks he’s fabulous," Sweeney said. "I think he’s a great entertainer, but at the end of the day, they’re inaccurate."

Whitney made clear on Tuesday, however, that in his eyes, Boston "fumbled" the situation "from the beginning," adding that things got even worse than it should when Boston "decided to trade Ullmark before you had had to deal with Swayman."

"You decided to not take (Swayman) to arbitration (on July 1, 2024)," Whitney said. "None of that happened, and all of the leverage was put into Jeremy Swayman's camp. And this guy, I do not think personally he's going to give in.

"I don't know where this goes from here, but his agent also represented William Nylander, and when did he hold out to? December."

As Whitney pointed out, the last day Swayman can sign a deal and still play during the upcoming regular season is on Dec. 1, 2024.

If the Bruins and Swayman don't reach an agreement by that date, the goalie will be forced to sit out the full season and playoffs.
