Cowboys Hire Belichick? 'Super Bowl!' Stephen A. Smith Predicts

FRISCO - For someone who "hates the Dallas Cowboys'' (which he does not), Stephen A. Smith is certainly generous as he offers to "my brother'' Jerry Jones the solution to what ails "America's Team.''

On Tuesday’s edition of ESPN's First Take , Smith offered an "analysis'' (if one can call it that) of a Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens that has the Cowboys having fallen to 1-2 to start the season , their worst start here since head coach Mike McCarthy’s first year with the team in the 2020-21 NFL season.

And Stephen A. has to a degree decided that McCarthy is largely to blame.

“I love my brother, Jerry Jones,” said Smith. “I promise you, this is what it’s going to be. All he’s gotta do is listen to me. ... (and) they are going to have a chance to win a championship. ... And you’re gonna have to go and get yourself Bill Belichick.''

What's most hilarious about this rant is that Smith seems to be under the impression that he's "breaking new ground'' with the "bold revelation'' that the idea of the Cowboys handing the reins to Belichick should be broached. In that regard, he's about eight months late to the table.

The legendary former New England Patriots head coach Belichick is presently unemployed (except for an assortment of media gigs) and it is an open secret that he wants to return to coaching in 2025.

Jones, for his part , early in the offseason announced that his "friendship'' with Belichick could made such a hire possible someday. Is someday coming? Smith offers zero insight but lots of bluster in his presentation.

"Let me tell you something right now,'' Smith bellowed. "You’re gonna have a bunch of brothers far more focused and prepared than they are right now. You do that and the Dallas Cowboys are challenging for the Super Bowl championship next year. ... Mark my words.”
