Veteran Columnist Storms off ‘Dan LeBatard Show’ Set: ‘He’s Enraged’

In his time with the Miami Herald—more than 50 years now —veteran columnist Greg Cote has experienced quite a few things on the South Florida sports scene. But one thing he surely did not expect to experience is the level of frustration he had on Tuesday during an appearance on the podcast of his longtime colleague Dan LeBatard .

Cote appears, sometimes more than once per week, regularly on the “Dan LeBatard Show,” and one of the segments the show aimed to start was an update on his fantasy football team, Greg’s Lobos. But it was clearly not a segment LeBatard, or the rest of his crew on the show, were prepared to take seriously.

And a fed-up Cote walked off the set because of it.

The antics began when the show’s producer repeatedly cut off Cote by playing the introduction to the Greg’s Lobos bit right as Cote began giving his fantasy update on the team. It was obvious that Cote’s frustration was building.

“Listen, the Lobos update is a thing, or it isn’t. It’s a bit on the show, or it isn’t. Don’t cue the music and have me get ready to do it and two sentences—two words in—give me the dumb (intro),” Cote said. “And this happened to be a week, by the way, and anybody who has played fantasy football can appreciate what I am about to tell you …”

Cote then was interrupted by the intro again. Three more times he began his Greg’s Lobos update, and three times he was cut off.

It got even more interesting when Dianna Russini of The Athletic joined the show to provide real-world football analysis as Cote fumed.

“You want me to walk out, I’ll walk out,” Cote told LeBatard.

“I don’t want you to walk out, LeBatard said, adding, “He’s enraged.”

Russini started her appearance by saying she does not care about the fantasy teams of others before asking Cote for an update on his team.

Cote began: “OK, anybody who plays fantasy football …”

And he was cut off again by the intro. He tried one last time to give the Greg’s Lobos update, saying, “The Lobos are not just ...” But, alas, he was again cut off by the intro. Cote then took his headset off and left.

“We’re not gonna get him back,” LeBatard said, laughing.

And, unfortunately, the world will not get a Greg’s Lobos update.

I was watching this episode and Stugotz went to console him by listening to him and they zoomed in on Stu’s ass and it wasn’t funny. I felt like they were very dismissive and disrespectful to Cody that day and was wondering why Dan was being so quick to dismiss when Cody was clearly upset about their disrespect.
