ESPN's Mike Greenberg Doesn't Hold Back on Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys had a phenomenal showing in Week 1, winning on the road against the Cleveland Browns with a 33-17 victory.

Everyone seemed to play a role in the win. Quarterback Dak Prescott was able to spread the ball around nicely to his receiving core while the defense did some serious damage with two interceptions and a whopping six sacks.

Since then, however, the Cowboys defense has given up 72 points over the span of two games and the team has generally been thoroughly outplayed. And because this is the Dallas Cowboys we're talking about, widespread criticism has swooped in at warp speed, accompanied by some strong words.

Mike Greenberg, host of ESPN's "Get Up," is now the latest to have dropped the verbal hammer on the Cowboys and specifically, team owner Jerry Jones. Check it out:

Greenberg beginning with, "I believe that Jerry Jones the owner, has let down Jerry Jones the general manager," was really such a great start to his rant because it speaks to the rather unusual setup in Dallas where Jones is more or less in control of everything, leaving everyone else kind of standing around wondering what's happening next.

But he wasn't done there. Greenberg continued:

"Jerry Jones the general manager has done a very good job. They've drafted well, they've developed well. You know what they haven't done? They haven't filled in the holes that need to be filled in. And that's what the owner does. The owner authorizes that spending. The owner doesn't treat free agency like it starts in September. The owner doesn't sign a player to the richest contract in NFL history an hour before the season begins so that he couldn't afford to sign anyone when free agency was actually going on."

Greenberg wasn't even quite finished there, but his scorched-earth take can be seen in its entirety in the above video.

To be fair, he does have a point. The Cowboys and Jerry Jones waited around until late August and into September to sign both CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott to monster contracts. Which, to Greenberg's point, essentially made the true free agency period rather uneventful for Dallas.

Now, had the Cowboys started off the season 3-0 as opposed to this ugly two-game losing stretch at home, sports media as a whole would be singing a drastically different tune.

But this is where the Cowboys are and this is exactly what happens every time Dallas takes what feels like a healthy step forward, only to quickly take two steps back.

Most horrible display of football management I’ve ever seen. Jerry needs to step aside and let Will McClay be the real GM and find a younger, smarter head coach to replace McFarty. The old geezer gets worse and worse and more incompetent every day when it comes to football! The fans should revolt and hit him in the wallet by not paying for anything Cowboys and wake the old senile fart up!
