Andy Reid Sets the Record Straight on Travis Kelce

Despite the Kansas City Chiefs' 3-0 record, Travis Kelce's slow start has been one of the top talking points through three weeks of NFL action.

Entering Week 4, the All-Pro tight end has an uncharacteristic stat line of eight catches, 69 receiving yards and zero touchdowns while averaging a career-low 8.6 yards per reception.

In 2023, the 34-year-old Kelce came up just 16 yards shy of what would've been his eighth consecutive 1,000-yard season. While his five touchdowns were his lowest total since 2019, Kelce has scored 74 of them in 162 career regular-season games. That includes five seasons of at least eight scores.

While some fans seemingly want to point the finger at Kelce's girlfriend Taylor Swift for the lack of production, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid set the record straight during his media availability on Wednesday.

"I know people are saying that he's old or that he has distractions, but defenses don't think that," Reid told reporters, via A to Z Sports' Charles Goldman . "Trav is fine. He just keeps being Trav. He works his tail off. He hasn't lost a step. He's not distracted. (Some of these defenses) are making sure he's taken care of."

Kelce may have received a helping hand entering the Chiefs' Week 4 road contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. On Tuesday, the NFL upheld a one-game suspension of Pro Bowl safety Derwin James Jr, who has been routinely tasked with blanketing Kelce in coverage during their two annual divisional meetings.

Still, Kelce has maintained a healthy 67.9 yards per game average and eight touchdowns in 18 career games against the Chargers.
