David Pollack Names College Football Powerhouse That's At The 'Top Of The Mountain'

Former ESPN analyst David Pollack recently joined Greg McElroy on the "Always College Football" podcast, where they reviewed some of the top national title contenders.

The Week 5 slate in college football could end up being a major turning point for the 2024 season when it's all said and done.

Some of the biggest games in the upcoming slate include No. 2 Georgia at No. 4 Alabama, No. 20 Oklahoma State at No. 23 Kansas State, and No. 15 Louisville at No. 16 Notre Dame.

Pollack and McElroy had a lengthy discussion about the Crimson Tide hosting the Georgia Bulldogs. Both of them believe it's a toss-up in who will win the game, but they also agreed that with a loss, either team could still get into the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Georgia is currently favored to defeat the Crimson Tide, with the betting line set at 2-point favorites.

Pollack believes the road ahead for Georgia is "interesting." He thinks the Bulldogs are at the "top of the mountain," but the matchup against Alabama will be a true teller of where the Bulldogs will be at the end of the season.

"Georgia is going to be very interesting to me," Pollack said. "Like, their schedule sucks... I think this is an important game... I think Georgia has solidified themselves at the top of the mountain. I don't think that's gonna change."

This will be the Bulldogs' biggest test of the year. Their last loss came in the hands of the Crimson Tide in the 2023 SEC championship game.

That loss bumped Georgia out of the four-team College Football Playoff last season, so they may be playing with a chip on their shoulder despite being the betting favorites in 2024.

Georgia comes into the game with a 3-0 record, having beaten Clemson, Tennessee Tech, and Kentucky.

While they own one of the best ranked wins in the nation with a 34-3 Week 1 victory over the Tigers, the Bulldogs also played in a nail-biter against the Wildcats in Week 3, which had fans and analysts wondering how good they truly are.

There are questions on both sides of the ball, but with an experienced quarterback in Carson Beck, a proven coach in Kirby Smart, and a resume that boasts two national titles in the last four years, Pollack believes Georgia is still at the "top of the mountain.

The Bulldogs have a couple of tests later this season, with matchups against Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas, so their contest in Tuscaloosa could determine how their season plays out.

"Pollack believes the road ahead for Georgia is "interesting." On the road to play Bama, Ole Miss & Texas. Florida is actually a road game that the "people" call neutral, and then they play Tennessee at home.
