WNBA Fans Troll Fever After Kelsey Mitchell Rejected Teammate’s High Five

Few could blame Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell for the visible frustration she showed in the second quarter of the team’s 87-81 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night, which ended the Fever’s season after just two playoff games.

In the heat of the moment — the Sun had just went on a 20-2 run and Fever trailed 26-16 at that point after playing catch-up for most of the first quarter and all of the second quarter — Mitchell brushed off teammate Erica Wheeler, who tried to give her a high five as she walked by on her way to the bench.

Mitchell had just taken a hit to the head from a Sun player, and while she was likely peeved because of that and not because Wheeler tried to exchange pleasantries, it didn’t stop people on social media from poking fun at the Fever, insinuating that Mitchell no longer wanted to be in Indiana.

“She’s out… done with the bs and I don’t blame her,” one fan wrote .

“Kelsey gotta get up outta there too, too talented to be around that toxicity,” commented another .

“That ‘thank you fever fans’ tweet is in the drafts IM CRYING,” one X user quipped .

“She is SO done with this team. We knew she was done weeks ago but she cleared that locker out last week and started packing her s--- mentally,” another pointed out .

“She getting tf outta Indiana tomorrow,” exclaimed another .

“She bout to dip on themmmm lol,” another user remarked .

Mitchell, who tied rookie Caitlin Clark for the team lead in scoring (19.2 points per game) and played the second-most minutes on the team (32 per game), will be a free agent this offseason.

The Fever could make her a core player, which give them to keep her for one year on a league-max salary of $241,984, which would be a slight increase from her current $212,000 salary.

Kelsey is a good player. But what team is going to give her the green light to gun. Her future teammates might not approve of her style. CC gives her the opportunity to get open looks, but can she be effective on a double team throughout the game? I like her as the 6th man. She's a defensive liability and doesn't have the mind set to play point. She better stay with the Fever and hope Sides still has a job. Indiana needs another good all-around guard to free up Clark. Kelsey takes a lot of low percentage shots and looks great against sub-par defensive. Play- off games are the real deal.
