Steelers' Justin Fields Elevates Play in Pittsburgh

Justin Fields has taken the reins of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, and with a 3-0 record to start the season, fans are wondering if the former Chicago Bears quarterback should keep the starting role even when Russell Wilson is fully healthy.

Fields, who was brought in as a backup during the offseason, has exceeded expectations with his steady play while Wilson recovers from a calf injury.

Fields’ performance marks a significant turnaround from his time in Chicago. In 2022, his best start with the Bears saw the team go 2-1, but his play was inconsistent. Fields completed just 23 of 45 passes for two touchdowns and four interceptions during that stretch. Fast forward to his time in Pittsburgh, and the contrast is clear.

Through three games this season, Fields has thrown for 518 yards with two touchdowns and just one interception, completing 55 of 75 passes. Highlighting that sometimes, all a player needs is a little change of scenery.

As the Steelers prepare for their Week 4 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, Fields has a prime opportunity to continue his strong play. The Colts are giving up 219.3 passing yards per game and 179 rushing yards, setting the stage for Fields to use his dual-threat capabilities.

So far in 2024, Fields has also contributed 90 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground.

While Fields continues to make his case as the Steelers' starting quarterback, the defense has been equally dominant. Led by T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh’s defense is allowing just 71.3 rushing yards and 157.7 passing yards per game, providing a solid foundation for the team's success.
